One of the best things about being a local passholder is you don’t mind heading to a park for a short amount of time. So on what was forecasted to be a miserably hot Saturday, the wife and I headed over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It started to sprinkle on our way there and fortunately the cloud cover decided to hang around so it was much cooler than expected even with the mugginess.
We went in and caught the Lightyear preview. It did its job, as I really want to see it now. Walked through Toy Story Land and noticed Slinky Dog Dash wasn’t running due to the lightning in the background. Half of the Alien Swirling Saucers was still not working for whatever reason. The crowd was lighter due to the rain but Woody’s Lunch Box was still packed.
As we entered the Black Spire Outpost at Galaxy’s Edge, my wife tried to open up her Disney Play Data pad to interact with the area and couldn’t get it to load. She tried a couple of times and never got it to work. It really is a shame because it is a really fun way to immerse yourself in the environment while you are there. I just hope they add some new tasks at some point. I think it was about 70-75 minutes for each of the rides (Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance) Thought about jumping in the single rider line for MFSR, but decided against it since we didn’t have too long before our reservations at Momma Melrose’s.
This was out first time eating here and we both kind of see why some people call it the Olive Garden of Disney. While it was good, it wasn’t anything we feel the need to rush back to. We started off the traditional bread and seasoned oil. It was enjoyable.
Next was the Vine-ripened Tomatoes and Fresh Mozzarella, not sure why it’s not listed as a caprese salad, but ok. We couldn’t quite put our finger on it but something was off. The balsamic kind of tasted like it was burnt. Maybe they were going for a smokey quality, but it was just off. On top of that the tomatoes were not fully ripened. I get that there may be a shortage of somethings and they want to push out what people are ordering. However, if it’s not going to be good, why push it out? We much rather would have been told it was sold out for the day or something. The person doing the prep, should have been able to tell the tomatoes weren’t ready and said something. If they did and they still are serving them, that is just sad.
For the main course, I had the Oven-baked Chicken alla Parmigiana and the wife ordered the Shrimp Campanelle. Mine was good, but for $26.00, I expect better than good for a traditional dish. My wife’s dish was a little heavy on the garlic and about half way through she found something that she felt was paper. The kitchen said it was an uncooked noodle. Either way, it shouldn’t have happened. Regardless of what it was they took care of the issue as expected.
The service was better than the meal, which was the biggest positive of dining there and the design of the place was neat and you could see the kitchen from our table. Again, this was our first time so we can’t say if this was normal or if like many places just hasn’t fully recovered from the pandemic.
If you have eaten there, I would love to know what your experience was.
